Finding Gratitude in Everyday

For the needy shall not always be forgotten, Nor shall the hope of the afflicted forever perish.—Psalm 9, 4 and 6

I like to begin everyday with a kind of gratitude list. My two little cats are always part of it. Of course, I have a lot of other things, too. But I’ve learned to think about little things that I used to take for granted.

Too often, things like being inside on a cold morning like today or having food on the table were second thoughts in my day.

Susie’s and Delia’s time in a shelter are long erased from their experience of living a somewhat pampered life as indoor urban cats. They have my and Michael’s undevoted attention most of the time along with a treat or two during the day.

My divine experience could be paired equally. I have always enjoyed the Lord’s protection through a variety of heavenly intercessions—usually some loving person—along with a treat or two.

Like Susie and Delia, the Lord’s rescue comes from all directions. Sometimes, out of necessity, outside of our families.

During the holiday season, hope needn’t perish—for anyone. For the afflicted, for the disheartened, even for rescue cats.

The Lord wants us to keep maintaining that gratitude list, not just on Thanksgiving Day.
